3 Heats: Mild, Medium & HOT! The Usual Question - So how do you end up making chilli beer then?
The Story in Brief I (The Little Green Man) have been growing chillies since the 90s, when it all started with a plant on my windowsill ‘cos I couldn’t buy the chillies I wanted in the shops. From that one plant I became hooked on chilli growing, next year I filled the house, so I got a glasshouse, filled the glasshouse and got a polytunnel, filled the polytunnel … the pattern continues en masse.
The Little Green Mission My mission as the UK’s leading chilli enthusiast is to get folk eating more varieties and using them in such a way as to release the interesting flavours they have inside, in addition to the heat! I achieve this in demo’s on TV and radio, at exhibitions, events and restaurants.
A match made in heaven (or is that hell!!) The Light Dawned So, being the North West’s biggest chilli grower, currently at 26 varieties and increasing annually, you start to wonder what to do with them all:

Chilli Cheese, Chilli Sausages, Chilli Chocolate, Pickles Check etc etc (any good ideas - drop me line, I’ll have a go at anything), and combining the 2 loves of my life: beer and chillies seemed a match made in heaven.
Imported Chilli Beers My main gripe with the imported chilli beers is they are like drinking tabasco sauce, you have a quick hit and then never drink it again.
The Plan Inside exceptionally hot chillies are incredible fruity flavours, so, what I wanted was more fruity, less heat – a tricky job.
The Journey I approached a considerable number of larger breweries to begin with, who generally brushed me aside, the last ‘biggie’ actually laughed at me, which I still find a ‘great source of motivation’ shall we say. I ended up dishevelled yet determined, at the door of a quaint brewery, who, incidentally, turned me down also, but, gave me the number of someone more experienced. Disneyland ~ Maybe Not ! So, I duly rang the 'last brewery on earth', whose response was ‘we don’t do Mickey Mouse’!!!! Bugger, I thought, but, undeterred, I persisted, persuaded them to meet with me, and we sat down and talked over my plans, and slowly, I won them over – I am persistent, in fact, they may have agreed just to get me out!!
Who’s Laughing Now? So, after wearing out one pair of good boots, and some serious taste testing of strengths and methods, we settled on what you are now sampling as Lancashire’s and Britain’s first chilli beer, proudly grown and made in Lancashire. Please let me know what you think. For more info see the Chilli Beer FAQs
